Sacred Bones Records to Release David Lynch’s ‘Eraserhead’ Soundtrack as a Deluxe Vinyl Reissue

SACRED BONES RECORDS TO RELEASE DAVID LYNCH’S ‘ERASERHEAD’ SOUNDTRACK AS A DELUXE VINYL REISSUE ON AUGUST 7

Sacred Bones Records is proud to a release a deluxe vinyl reissue of David Lynch’s Eraserhead soundtrack on August 7, 2012. The soundtrack will be released in a limited edition of 1500 and will feature a 16-page booklet, three 11-inch prints, a digital download, and a 7-inch single of Peter Ivers’ “In Heaven” with the previously unreleased “Pete’s Boogie”.

Eraserhead rests firmly at the top of that canon of American underground culture for which there is no genre. A staple of the dark underbelly of popular cinema that was originally only viewable at arthouse screenings or on the Midnight Movie circuit, Eraserhead is a truly unadulterated offering; and much of its sensation lies beyond the purely visual realm. The stark, dusty black and white images put forth are caked with and submerged in a dense jungle of industrial hums, buzzes, screeches and screams. Eraserhead is a narrative made up of two intertwined veins: one of bleak and beautiful pictures elegantly painted in gray and black; and one of blankets of sublime, enveloping noise and static, the tinkering of Fats Waller organ rolls echoing in the background.

To lay in the dark and listen to this dizzying succession of blissful noise is a different way to get “lost” in the vast space of then the visuals of the film itself. It’s no stretch to consider this soundtrack an experimental, early industrial masterpiece. Eraserhead’s individual passion and personal tone shines through even in the thickest moments of fierce static, an audio undertaking that took Lynch and sound designer Alan Splet years to perfect. Though Eraserhead’s most famous piece of music is undoubtedly Peter Ivers’ unforgettable, oft-covered haunting ballad “In Heaven”, and the most exciting attribute of this edition of the soundtrack is no doubt its expansion; during the process of transferring the audio tapes, an unreleased recording from Ivers was discovered. It had not been heard since it was originally performed, over three decades ago. After working for years to expose and foster the dark, brooding sounds that exist in the current underground, nothing could make us more proud than to share with our audience this, a new look at one of our most cherished influences; the soundtrack to David Lynch’s Eraserhead

FLYING LOTUS ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM ‘UNTIL THE QUIET COMES’

FLYING LOTUS ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM

‘UNTIL THE QUIET COMES’

OUT OCT 2, 2012 ON WARP RECORDS

PLUS INTERNATIONAL HEADLINE DATES ANNOUNCED

This fall, Flying Lotus releases Until The Quiet Comes, the long-awaited follow-up to 2010’s Cosmogramma. Composed, according to FlyLo, as “a collage of mystical states, dreams, sleep and lullabies”, Until the Quiet Comes has the distinct feel of this nocturnal trip. From the twitching descent into a subconscious state and the out-of-focus time-ether of the journey that follows, the sound is an unhinged, yet elegant evolution of the melodic and rhythmic interplay that is woven into the DNA of Flying Lotus’ aural personae. The album, featuring guests Erykah Badu, Laura Darlington, Niki Randa, Thundercat & Thom Yorke, is set for release on October 1 (2 in N. America), 2012 on Warp Records.

To celebrate the release, Lotus will embark on an extensive period of touring, hitting cities across North America, the UK and Europe. More shows around the globe will be announced soon. FlyLo’s recordings and live performances are the center of a musical web that stretches far from the vibrant sprawl of Los Angeles – whether it’s The Weeknd, Earl Sweatshirt or Venus Williams (!) joining him on-stage at various shows this year, or FlyLo spending some studio time with Black Hippy’s inimitable SchoolBoyQ.  All this stylistic mingling and genre-melting has contributed significantly to shift music in a direction that makes intellectual leaps without forsaking the all-important heft of a bassline or unimpeded ‘swing’ of a drum beat – the same way so many masters of soul music have infused their songs for lovers and dancers with brilliant and heady subtext for decades. Until The Quiet Comes follows this tradition while clearing a path distinctly it’s own, which is a mark of a classic.

ATP’s I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR USA 2012
RELOCATES TO PIER 36 IN NEW YORK CITY

Curated by Greg Dulli (The Afghan Whigs) & ATP

Friday September 21st to Sunday 23rd

Weekend/Day Passes On Sale via www.ATPfestival.com

“In terms of vibe, it is simply the best music festival there is.” - NPR

ATP Concerts today announce the relocation of this September’s New Jersey based I’ll Be Your Mirror festival event to Pier 36 in Manhattan, New York.

Pier 36 was the intended home for I’ll Be Your Mirror beginning in 2013 - but due to unavoidable logistical concerns (along with a lack of available fan accommodations in Asbury Park), ATP has decided to move there for this year’s event.

New additions to the festival today include: Philip Glass & Tyondai Braxton, Janeane Garofalo, Lightning Bolt, Lee Ranaldo, Chavez, Kurt Braunohler, Afterhours, Joseph Arthur, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Album Leaf, The Psychic Paramount, Braids, Tall Firs, Blanck Mass, Endless Boogie, Demdike Stare and DJ Jonathan Toubin with more to be added to all three days - see below for more info on the new additions…

Some artists who are unable to play the new location - the following statement comes from Louis CK’s management:

“Louis CK who was originally scheduled for the Asbury Park event will not be performing at ATP in Manhattan due to scheduling conflicts. Check
louisck.com for info about his tour schedule.”

Sharon Van Etten, Reigning Sound and Factory Floor will also not be available to perform. All other previously announced artists will perform as originally scheduled.

“We hope that the new venue will make for an incredible event and open up many other accommodation options to fans who were unable to find rooms in Asbury Park,” comments ATP’s Barry Hogan. “We sincerely apologise to those inconvenienced by the move and hope that any problems caused may be minimised by the relatively small distance between the two locations. Anyone who is unable to attend due to the move or due to the cancellation of Louis CK can claim a full refund by contacting their ticket agent between now and July 31st.”

Pier 36 is a new indoor venue sitting on the edge of the East River between the Manhattan & Williamsburg Bridges - it’s outside area boasts glorious views of Brooklyn and the Statue of Liberty.

The Saturday night of this year’s festival will be headlined by The Afghan Whigs (who have reunited after a 13 year hiatus) and curated by their frontman Greg Dulli, with ATP curating the Friday and Sunday nights.

Tickets are on sale now via ATPfestival.com priced at $199 for the Weekend, with Day Passes also newly available priced at $60 for Friday & $75 for Saturday/Sunday.

Full information on the additions to all three days of the line-up…

Friday will feature both music and comedy - we can now announce a musical headliner for Friday, as esteemed composer PHILIP GLASS teams up with TYONDAI BRAXTON (former Battles frontman) for a completely unprecedented live collaboration. Other stellar additions to the day’s musical line-up are LIGHTNING BOLT - one of the world’s most unmissable live acts, and LEE RANALDO of Sonic Youth. Joining the Friday on the Comedy stage is none other than standup/actress JANEANE GAROFALO and newcomer KURT BRAUNOHLER, with more to be confirmed. Friday tickets cost $60.

Saturday, headlined by THE AFGHAN WHIGS and featuring a stellar list of artists chosen by the Whigs’ frontman Greg Dulli, has three new artists. First up are alternative rock band CHAVEZ, who returned to the live arena in the last few years to much acclaim, and they’re joined by Italy’s AFTERHOURS (past collaborators with Greg Dulli) and Ohio based singer/songwriter JOSEPH ARTHUR. They join the previously announced Saturday line-up of The Afghan Whigs, The Roots, José González, Mark Lanegan Band, Dirty Three, The Antlers, The Dirtbombs, Scrawl, Emeralds, Vetiver, Charles Bradley And The Extraordinaires and DJ Questlove with more to be confirmed. Tickets for this day cost $75.

Sunday will be headlined by one of the incomparable live shows from legendary Canadian post-rock pioneers GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR. Also newly confirmed are Canada’s fantastic BRAIDS, Britain’s DEMDIKE STARE and BLANCK MASS (feat Benjamin Power of F**k Buttons), intense New York post-rock from THE PSYCHIC PARAMOUNT, a return to ATP for THE ALBUM LEAF, cult rock quartet ENDLESS BOOGIE, alt folk duo TALL FIRS, and DJ JONATHAN TOUBIN. They join the previously announced Sunday line-up of The Make-Up, Hot Snakes, The Magic Band, Autolux, Thee Oh Sees, I Break Horses and Quintron And Miss Pussycat (moving to this day from Saturday) with more to be confirmed. Sunday tickets cost $75.

As well as the live music line-up and comedy on the Friday, our friends at The Criterion Collection will return to run the Cinema across the weekend. All three days feature DJs and other activities to be confirmed in the months ahead. Each day runs from noon-midnight.

NEW ZEALAND’S OPOSSOM REVEALS VIDEO FOR “FLY”

NEW ZEALAND’S OPOSSOM REVEALS VIDEO FOR “FLY”

DEBUT ALBUM ELECTRIC HAWAII OUT AUG 7

CHECK OUT THE AWESOME VIDEO “FLY” HERE

image description

Fire Records are excited to share with you the fantastic video for “Fly,” the second track on the hotly tipped album from New Zealand’s Opossom.

This clip follows a group of scientists as they attempt to study a mysterious moving pyramid in the country. They move human looking robots around by remote control to get in closer to it. As they investigate they discover a UFO.

Sam Kristofski filmed this clip for ‘Fly’ in the South Island of New Zealand. He also made the previous Opossom clip for “Blue Meanies.”

Opossum is the brainchild of Kody Nielson, formerly of acclaimed “trouble gum art punks,” The Mint Chicks. Kody is also known for playing and touring with his former Mint Chicks comrade and real-life brother Ruben Nielson in his band Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Opossom have produced the exceptional and captivating album ‘Electric Hawaii’, which is due for release in August.

Home-written, recorded and mixed by Kody himself, it is not the singer-songwriter solo album of a former punk rock band singer. It’s a further exploration of today’s musical journey into a lively, engaging world of carefully crafted sonic layers of light and dark, incorporating some of his personal Polynesian background with his blend of beatnik psychedelica.

Already acclaimed by the likes of NME and CMU, their intense live performances have garnered rave reviews and the band made waves after their UK live debut in April. Joining Kody on stage are Bic Runga in the role of chanteuse and multi-instrumentalist and former fellow Mint Chick Michael Logie on bass guitar duties. There are plans are afoot for UK, European and US shows in the Autumn.

FADE TO MIND RELEASES DEBUT EP FROM MASSACOORAMAAN ‘DEAD LONG TIME’ OUT DIGITALLY JUNE 26. VINYL OUT NOW

FADE TO MIND RELEASES DEBUT EP FROM MASSACOORAMAAN

‘DEAD LONG TIME’ OUT DIGITALLY JUNE 26; VINYL OUT NOW

Download the Nguzunguzu remix of “Dead Long Time” now:

http://www.mediafire.com/?5b9h5wdf6jrlxd1

Massacooramaan (aka Dave Quam) rose to international attention through his music writing & photography, which was some of the first to thoroughly document the then underground juke and footwork artists from his adopted home, Chicago. Recently, after years in Chicago he relocated to Oregon where he shifted his focus to the studio and began to create his first body of work, which has grown to become his debut EP Dead Long Time.

With a contempt for rhythmic regularity and an encyclopedic sample library, Massacooramaan reinterprets juke, reggaeton, and other styles from various corners of the earth into his own twitching and brutal sound. Already an underground anthem, title track “Dead Long Time” grabs you by the neck and shakes you with its stop-start rhythm which is synched up to a dancehall vocal sample that commands you to “kill mon dead.” It’s a homicidal ladies jam that unites the fury of death metal with a stuttering bubbling beat.

“Aww Shit!”, conceptualized with DJ Rashad exemplifies Massacooramaan’s skill with vocal chopping, pairing the juke legend’s vocals with popping 808 toms. “Bludgeon Riddim” cracks with a very real electricity, a beat whose syncopation and sound palette border on the autistic. “Wijd” is a call to arms for a forgotten nomadic people, with swirling peyote laced vocals to celebrate the end of a successful hunt, while “Jumbie Yelp” enters as the most restrained of the bunch, a hypnotically bouncy and dreamy ghetto house instrumental. Closing out the EP is “Dancehall Princess,” a joyful attack on those who fear reggaeton, lovingly tying the sounds of footwork and dembow together with a classic dancehall vocal.

Inspired by Massacooramaan’s catalog of obscure sample packs, and obsessive knowledge of exotic YouTube rips, Kingdom has created the album art for FADE004: a molten ball of club flyers and encrypted data punctured by protruding knives and swords.

02. Aww Shit! (ft. DJ Rashad)

image description

Beirut is pleased to share with you the new video for ‘The Rip Tide,’ the title-track to their latest, critically-acclaimed album. The Rip Tide video is a gorgeous journey that we urge to watch until the end. Zach Condon expounds on the song and the video:

“I always felt that The Rip Tide wasn’t fully able to project its own ambitions in song form.. no matter how it was performed or recorded, it felt contained by sound alone… I wanted more, as I often do with my music, and this is not a bad thing.  Growing to accept a song’s limits is part of the process of creating and loving them.  Which was why I was so excited to see what Houmam had dug into when he picked The Rip Tide out of all others for a video.  The concept fit, and the product brought the song somewhere that I had only been able to describe to myself, now available for others to see and feel it much more as I had in the process of writing it.”

Dusted Announces New York City Record Release Shows

Dusted (Brian Borcherdt from Holy Fuck) Announces New York City Record Release Shows

Debut LP ‘Total Dust’ Out July 10th On Polyvinyl/Hand Drawn Dracula

Dusted announces two New York City shows to celebrate the release of their debut LP, Total Dust, which will be released on July 10th through Polyvinyl/Hand Drawn Dracula. The first show will be July 12th @ Cake Shop in Manhattan followed by Brooklyn on July 15th @ Glasslands. Look for more extensive touring in the fall.

***

After six years of constant Holy Fuck touring, Brian Borcherdt emerged from the tangled cables and broken drum machines with a slew of new songs. Looking to explore a different sound, Borcherdt teamed with producer Leon Taheny (Final Fantasy, Rituals, Bruce Peninsula) and together the pair recorded in a converted garage under the name Dusted.

The resulting album, Total Dust, resides in an atmosphere that is sometimes melodic, sometimes haunting, and always clouded by a fuzzy glow. With string arrangements and half-hidden guitar feedback held together by the occasional tambourine and minimal drum machine, the stripped down mood perfectly complements a collection of songs that are more than capable of standing on their own merits.

Live, Dusted challenges the sonic limitations of a two-piece. Vocals and guitar are expelled through small overblown amplifiers and bolstered by a raucous backbone of live drums, 808 samples, and bass synth. Since their stage debut this spring, the band has performed with labelmates Deerhoof and of Montreal, while back home in Toronto the duo has been playing parties with fellow friends Army Girls, Odonis Odonis, and Little Girls.

Total Dust will also be released as a limited-edition run of 500 copies on 180 gram maroon-colored vinyl, which can be pre-ordered here. In addition, pre-orders of the CD version will include the bonus track, “Centuries of Sleep”.
